Community Action
Living Hope Charity
Established in November 2001 to be the social arm of Living Hope-Belfast, we are based in an area that has been designated one of the most deprived communities in Northern Ireland with one of the lowest educational achievements and one of the highest juvenile crime rates. Teenage pregnancies and youth suicide are amongst the highest in Europe. It is into these situations that the Living Hope Charity exists to provide help and hope to people of all ages.
In the past 7 years we have raised over £150,000 for the variety of projects we are involved in, as well as weekly activities it has enabled us to run 24 camps for local children and young people and 8 years of summer play schemes for up to 120 children. Our Christmas project provides presents for over 150 children and in 2008 we donated 21 food hampers as well as providing Christmas parties and Dinners for people of all ages. Every penny we raise as a charity goes directly towards the projects we run as all overheads, salaries and administration costs are covered by the church.
Part of the charities work is the Social Concern team which reaches out to people in need to provide them with practical assistance such as furniture, baby clothes and accessories, transportation, advice etc. We cannot meet every need but we try and help as many people as we can.
We also provide the premises for local people to use, there is a weekly ceramics group as well as local community group meetings that take place in our premises, the Living Hope has become a hub in this community being used by nearly 300 people a week of all ages.
